Keyboard shortcuts

Move through the cards, turn, move and zoom the 3D model from the keyboard, on a Mac or on Windows.

The player also works from a keyboard: on the web, on an iPad or an iPhone with a keyboard, on a Mac, and on Apple Vision Pro with a keyboard. In the player, the ? key opens the same list.

The keys work as long as the focus is not in a field of a card. A text field, a formula or a slider keeps its own keys.

Guide

The Guide is the content of the 3D model, card after card, in the panel at the bottom of the screen.

Next, previous element⇥ or ⇧ + ⇥Tab or Shift + Tab

Pick answer 1 to 4 of a quiz1 to 41 to 4

On a Mac keyboard without these keys, fn + ↓ is Page Down, fn + ↑ is Page Up, fn + ← and fn + → are ↖ and ↘.

Tab goes through the bar, the sections, the content of the card, then the points marked on the 3D model. The digits 1 to 4 pick the answer shown at that place, while the quiz card has the focus.

On an iPad and on a Mac, the Guide menu of the menu bar lists these keys too.

A long card

A card taller than the screen is read to its end first. ↓ scrolls it by a third of the screen.

Space and Page Down scroll it by a whole screen.

Once the bottom of the card shows, the next card comes to the top. ↑ goes back up to the top of the card before moving to the previous one.

A card that goes past the screen by less than 40 pixels counts as a whole card. The same rule applies when the cards show one at a time.

From one section to the next

At the last card of a section, a first ↓ announces the next section at the end of the card. A second ↓ goes there.

At the first card, a first ↑ announces the previous section. A second ↑ goes to its last card.

The announcement goes away after 4 seconds, or at any other key or gesture.

Each press turns the 3D model by 15 degrees, moves it by a small step, or zooms by 10%. Held down, the key keeps turning, moving or zooming. The fine zoom is four times smaller.

W moves the 3D model up, A to the left, S down and D to the right. On a French keyboard the same four keys are Z, Q, S and D: the keys are read by their place, so they work on every layout.

When the 3D view has the focus, after a click on the 3D model or with Tab, the arrows alone turn it.

A small indicator at the bottom of the scene shows the zoom. It goes away 1.2 seconds after the last key.

The + key works on every keyboard layout, the numeric keypad included.

The player never uses ⌘ or Ctrl with the arrows, + or −. On the web, those keys stay the browser's: they make the page bigger or smaller, and go back a page.

Sequence

When the 3D model has an animated sequence, these keys drive its bar.

Play or pauseKK
Previous step, next stepJ or LJ or L
Fine step back, forward⇧ + J or ⇧ + LShift + J or Shift + L

The fine step moves by a tenth of a second and pauses the sequence. Space stays with the Guide.

With Single-key shortcuts off, K, J and L are off too, with or without ⇧ (Shift).

The bar, its options and the cards that play a step: Play an animated sequence.

The apps are always full screen, so F is for the web only.

When the class sets the sound, M changes nothing and a message says so.

C switches the captions to Always. A second press puts back the setting chosen before.

Leaving the player

Escape first closes what is open: a sheet, the card of a point, a menu.

On the player itself, Escape asks for confirmation before going back to the library. Enter quits, since the Quit button has the focus. Escape again stays in the player.

The Close button quits without asking, and so does Escape on a demo stand.

On the web in full screen, the browser takes the first Escape to leave full screen. The confirmation comes with the next one.

Using a presentation clicker

A presentation clicker sends Page Down and Page Up. The Guide moves forward or back, as in a slideshow: a long card scrolls screen by screen, then the next card comes. Nothing to set up.

Single-key shortcuts

Some keys work alone, without ⇧, ⌥, Shift, Alt or another modifier: the letters, the digits, ?, + and −.

Voice control types characters while a person speaks, and a spoken word could then set off one of these shortcuts.

The Single-key shortcuts switch, in the player's settings, turns them off. It is on by default.

It follows the Foxar account, like the other accessibility settings: turned off on one device, it stays off on the others signed in to the same account.

The arrows, Space, Page Down, Page Up, Home, End, Tab, Enter, Escape and the keys used with ⇧ or ⌥ (Shift or Alt) keep working, except ⇧ + J and ⇧ + L, which go off with K, J and L.

Gestures and shortcuts in the player

In the player, the ? menu then Gestures and shortcuts shows the gestures, and a Keyboard section when a keyboard is connected. The ? key opens it straight on that section.

On Apple Vision Pro, Gestures and shortcuts is under More options in the dock.

If a key does nothing

  • Click in the player first: the keyboard goes to the window that has the focus.

  • In a text field, a formula or a slider, the arrows stay with the field.

  • For the letters and the digits, check that Single-key shortcuts is on.

The gestures, with a mouse or a trackpad: Explore in 3D.
